I Talk!
I returned from my 10 day silent vipassana meditation retreat on Sunday, and splash landed back into life like an Apollo capsule reentry. 😭
(Yes, I’ll be writing some separate posts about my experience at the retreat!)
Work did not pile up too high, but then, I work for myself, so I guess I managed myself pretty well. Maybe I’ll even get a decent performance review this year!
High on the “reentry list” was writing this post. It’s been hot minute since I updated you folk on what’s going on with KimBoo, but that’s honestly because it’s been a weary summer doldrums. As Gina Hogan Edwards and I tell each other a lot lately, we’re in the long middle of all of our projects, so there is more “daily grind” and less “creative inspiration” going on.
That said, I have not been idle!
Weekly Monthly Round Up
Serial Nation is finally settling down into a schedule, including a monthly office hour tomorrow (Thursday, Aug. 13) on zoom for my Patreon supporters. I’m always super concerned about providing quality content so it’s taken me a while to find the balance between high quality/high quantity and, uh, burnout. Anyway, upcoming stuff includes a new podcast (weekly) and planning for a full cohort event this fall!
Transmigrated Teri: Episode 15 just posted! The first arc is fully drafted at 48 episodes, and is publishing weekly over on the Bibliotheca.
Dragon’s Grail, Arc 4: The Pirate’s Witch is still in edits, so honestly I’m pushing back posting on that to September.
Novo Collegian Alliance: Board elections are coming up soon, and we have five candidates to choose from for three open seats. What with everything going on at New College, it’s more important than ever for this community to pull together!
Bastards of Yunmeng: This CQL/MDZS fanfic continues at 182,000 words and 89 chapters! Wei Yanli and her family and her sect are gearing up for war, but it might come to them soon than expected!

With all the drama about A.I. and technology lately, I thought it would be good to share a post I made a year ago about living through dangerous times and how technological change will always surprise you in the most mundane ways, in the end:
Walking Blind into the Future
It’s worth remembering that the dotcom bubble also burst pretty spectacularly and we’re all here 25+ years later, using the “World Wide Web” (does anyone use that phrase anymore???) on the regular. That doesn’t mean that AI as we know it now is long for this world. Apple is still making the distant descendants of those Macintoshes, but who uses a Commodore Amiga anymore? Or even WordPerfect? We never actually know where this is all going. The crystal ball is a bit cloudy.
Out and About
So what is southeast Georgia (USA) like, anyway???? That is where the vipassana retreat center is located, and this photo (shot when the light was red, I swear!) pretty much captures about 80% of the trip. This is an area of the state where stereotypes abound and most “cities” are abandoned gas stations, old trailer homes, older small houses, and the occasional random factory. And train tracks.
