No Talkie
I'm headed off to a silent meditation retreat where there is no talking, no digital devices, no reading, and no writing. Taking bets on my sanity!
Hey y’all, it’s KimBoo! I’m an author and a podcaster who is also a librarian, text technology historian, and former I.T. project manager. I write about a lot of interesting things, I hope you agree! Please consider supporting me so I can keep throwing errata & etcetera into the Scriptorium!
Tomorrow morning I’m headed up aways to east Georgia (the state) for a ten day meditation retreat. This is something I’ve wanted to do for years, but have not been able to schedule for various reasons; after all, taking nearly two weeks off from life in general is never an easy task.
But earlier this year, I got a car, and since I’m currently dog-less, I figured it was time to apply. I got a spot and then forgot about it for a few months.
Now, I am getting ready to head up to ten days of meditation. This is not a spa, this is a serious religious order who holds silent meditation retreats on the regular. There is no room service. Food is simple and vegetarian. Sleeping accommodations are spartan. There is, thankfully, air conditioning!
On average, it’s about ten hours a day of meditation. It’s a silent retreat, so talking, reading, writing, and of course mobile devices are not allowed.
BUT WHY????
I have done meditation retreats before, and I find them incredibly grounding and centering. Honestly, my life has been like riding a surfboard during a hurricane since the pandemic hit in 2020, with a few rare moments of “down time.” My nerves are shot and my soul must find grace. This is something I need to do to, and it’s hard to explain why, but it’s important.
So, I’m incommunicado until August 9th. I’ll catch you up with everything I’m doing when I get back!
