Keely's Way: 9/2/2024
Podcasts, blog posts, and fanfiction OH MY! And! Some Keely backstory!
Woke up at 6:00 am to 83°F temps. Since it is a holiday (Labor Day! Unions FTW! Solidarity!!!!) here in the USA, there wasn’t much traffic so I let Keely pick the route. She went up the road to drag me around the Levi Park neighborhood, which at least kept us in the shade as the temps kept rising along with the sun.
As I write this, it’s 96°F out (102°F heat index) and my house is at 80°F (the a/c is set at 78°F but it can’t keep up). I do have floor fans running. Keely is crashed out.
I’m so ready for cooler temperatures I could cry. 😭 The first day we get below 70°F you will hear me hollering for joy!
Weekly Roundup
My interview with Dan Kenner of the Casual Author podcast is live! Dan is a fellow pantser and we had a great talk about how we use discovery writing in our creative process. He’s one of the few “straight shooter” writers I’ve ever met. He 100% writes into the dark, meaning that he starts a novel and then…just…keeps going to the end! Even I’m not that brave!
KimBoo’s Bibliotheca has LAUNCHED! This is my new home for my new fiction. I’ve been exploring the best paths forward with serializing and subscriptions, and for now, this is the most efficient and sensible approach. I talk about my reasons why I have launched a separate blog/newsletter for my fiction here in the post, “Welcome to the Bibliotheca”!
Ep. 48, “Trusting Your Creative Intuition” is up at the Around the Writer’s Table podcast: Discovery writing is the theme of the week! Gina, Melody, and I do a deep dive into intuition: how it works, what it actually is, and how writers can strengthen it as a skill set. Listen via our website, YouTube, or your fave podcast app!
Author Advice Overload (NOT “overlord”!!!) is a post all about all the options writers have in pursuing a career as an author these days. I have heard from so many newbie writers who get incredibly overwhelmed by all the advice out there—most of it well-meaning, but not all advice is good for all writers. Included are some questions to ask yourself to help sharpen your vision and goals!
The Bastards of Yumeng continues with Chapter 14! This fanfiction is a WIP and is in the 陈情令 | The Untamed (TV) / 魔道祖师-墨香铜臭 | Módào Zǔshī - Mòxiāng Tóngxiù fandom. The Bastards of Yunmeng is all about the three kids of the Yunmeng Jiang martial arts sect after they get thrown out into the streets as children. Its tropes include: found family, friends-to-lovers, canon-divergence, and sentient Burial Mounds!

Writing
I’ve been poking at my stories but mostly I’ve been focused on getting the Bibliotheca ready to launch. I still have a ways to go!
It’s a Keely-Boo World
I adopted Keely on September 23, 2016. We’re coming up on eight years together, which was more than I thought I’d get. I was told she was ten years old, but the vet said she was closer to eight. So, she’s either sixteen or eighteen by now, and the gray in her muzzle is showing her age.
This is the photo that led me to her:
I was at work in my office at FSU in early August and as I sat there, thinking about how much I wanted a dog, I realized: why not? I had a good job, steady income, my own apartment, and time. I pulled up the Big Dog Rescue website, as I knew several people who had gotten dogs from them. That photo appeared before me and I went no further. That was my dog. There she was, RIGHT THERE.
I hounded (heh) the foster family until I got a lock on Keely. She was in the middle of a major heart worm treatment, so she could not come home with me until much later.
No regrets. She’s remains the best decision I have ever made.
Thanks for reading Keely’s Way!

Wait!! Keely looks black in that pic! Was she really that dark as a "youngster"... well, mid-lifer?
