Update on Keely; Writing and the art of giving ourselves grace
The road-trip recovery period seems to get longer and longer the older I get. 😭
I’ve been neglecting marketing mostly because I find it boring, but also because I’m trying to spin the wheel on so many projects! I finally got my productivity advice book, Rise to the Task: Master Holistic Productivity with Personal Projects Management (‘zon only for now, alas) available in paperback, which means all my non-fiction books are done. That leaves, uh, all the fiction books.
(Don’t even ask about audio editions…)

Writing
Sometimes things roll, and sometimes they…don’t. I ended up spending most of the week working on edits and not writing fresh words. That can be frustrating but I’m trying to learn how reduce stress, not eat it. One reason I flaked out of the publishing/author world for the third time in 2018 was because write-to-market/rapid release model was a very poor match for me. Deciding to focus on my writing again in 2023 was fueled by the idea that I could write the way I wanted to, and write the stories I want to tell.
Yet, sometimes, I fall into bad habits and get down on myself for not being “productive enough.” Just a reminder to me and to you: life is rough right now, for so many of us and our loved ones, that just staying the course is a triumph. Let’s give ourselves grace.

Unfortunately, Keely is feeling under the weather. She’s been dealing with incontinence, which I suppose is not surprising for a 17 year old rescue mutt. For a few days when I got back from my travels she was off her food and acting extremely lethargic, and I was super worried. She’s rallied and is eating her fill of her fave wet food, but I think we’re just at the stage of “some days are better than others.” It’s so hard to watch a beloved pet decline, y’all, especially one who has enriched my life so, so much over the past eight years.
My job is to make sure she’s happy and comfortable and loved. And do a lot of loads of laundry. 😕

The 1 Million Words Club on discord is growing, albeit more slowly than I hoped. I intend for it to be a vibrant community for writers of all levels and genres, and we’re getting there, I just want more people to know about it!
