Gig with Me: Self-publishing Mentorship!
Often the most difficult part of self-publishing is the publishing part
Hey y’all, it’s KimBoo! I’m an author who is also librarian, text technology historian, and former I.T. project manager. I write about a lot of interesting things, I hope you agree! Please consider supporting me (and my dog!) so I can keep throwing errata & etcetera into the Scriptorium!
It’s easy to find help on how to write, and it’s easy to find help on how to advertise and run a marketing campaign for your novels, but the nuts-and-bolts of actually publishing a book is usually glossed over.
That’s for a good reason, to be honest: the process is constantly undergoing change.
How I formatted and uploaded a book to Smashwords and ‘zon back in 2012 is a far, far cry from how I handle being wide and selling direct in 2023. Any class someone like me could make would be out-of-date in less than a year.
So instead, I’ve decided to offer my help in the form of coaching:
Are you confused by all the options for self publishing? Do you wonder what the difference is between KDP and KU? Is it really that hard to go wide with your books? Should you publish on a subscription platform like Patreon or Ream? What about BookTok and YouTube?
This 1:1 coaching is all about the nuts and bolts of self-publishing. You get advice and guidance from a professional author who has been self-publishing for over ten years, and is intimately familiar with aggregators, publishing platforms, and ebook formats.
From explaining the basics to guiding you through setting up multiple revenue streams, I will help you figure out the what and how of self-publishing.
“It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this.”
I created this gig after the third time I did a coaching call with a friend about how to actually do the “publishing” part of self-publishing.
Even experienced authors get flummoxed by the intersection of technology-and-publishing, and often default to just posting ebooks to ‘zon because everything else is too intimidating and overwhelming. But after an hour talking to me, they walk away with a better understanding of their options and a plan of action. Maybe they decide to stay exclusively on Kindle Unlimited, but they make that choice based on weighing their options instead of being scared of them.
I’ve been self-publishing since 2010, and while I’m not one of the big-name bestsellers, I’ve been in the trenches long enough to have learned a lot of things. So, I have a lot of perspective, and what I don’t know, I can find out (the librarian’s mantra!). I’m also very, very good at breaking down “tech-speak” into things that non-techie folx can understand!
If you’re interested, here are the packages I offer on Fiverr:
Beginner: Info - This is for anyone who feels like they just need a tour around the landscape of self-publishing. This one hour session provides you an overview of the self-publishing ecosystem as it currently stands, your options and opportunities within it, and how you start self-publishing without being overwhelmed. Cost: $70
Intermediate: Strategy - This combines the one hour information session with a second hour of coaching you through determining your best self-publishing strategies. It can be done in one two-hour long meeting, but ideally, we have the first hour-long overview session then meet again a few days later when you have had time to digest all that information and dig up all the questions you have. Cost: $125
Advanced: Consulting - This is a three session package that includes the one hour overview session, the one hour coaching session, and a third hour-long consultation to follow up on your progress and trouble-shoot any issues you have. It’s best if these sessions are spaced out at least a week apart, or more, since it will be important for you to actually be journeying through the process to get the most from our sessions! Cost: $175
I have other gigs on fiverr, including a writer’s accountability service and a writer’s career coaching plan! I’d love to help you achieve your goals!
