‟Gratitude is a duty, never an entitlement.” ~ Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Insight
While it is important to express gratitude, it is equally important to remember that no one is required to show it to you. Gratitude is a gift you choose to give, not something you can demand from others. This perspective shifts your focus from expecting recognition to simply appreciating what you have received. When you stop viewing gratitude as an obligation owed to you, you free yourself to give and receive it more generously. Gratitude is most beautiful when it is freely offered, not expected.
Reflection
Are there situations where you have felt entitled to gratitude? How might focusing on giving rather than expecting gratitude improve your mindset?
